I'm Helen, a Senior III Iyengar yoga teacher with rheumatoid arthritis. Yoga helped keep me mobile despite this debilitating disease. After over 30 years of teaching throughout Europe and teaching busy working women in-person, I've taken my classes online. Now even more women can use yoga as the antidote to the aches and pains of working life.

Week 1

Bring flexibility to the hips and shoulders and reduce stiffness in the neck and shoulders. Strengthen your leg muscles and joints.

Week 2

Learn to calm the mind by bringing flexibility to the spine and detoxing the body. Increase overall strength and stamina.

Week 3

Improve concentration, cleanse the organs and stimulate the circulation.

Week 4

Soothe the nervous system, learn to make the spine supple and relieve back ache.

Week 5

Reduce depression and boost confidence. We'll also focus on make your knee and hip joints more flexible. Finally, we'll help the mind become more focussed and alert with the yoga equivalent of coffee.



Week 6

Improve lung capacity and digestion. Relieve all those sore areas: stiff back, hips, neck and shoulders.

Week 7

Improve circulation and release stress and tension in key pain point areas: neck, shoulders and back. You'll also learn poses to help relieve insomnia and sleep problems. Finally, we'll soothe the nervous system and boost the immune system.

Yip, I know. When I was in my 40s I was juggling a full-time job, part-time work in the evenings plus house work and a young child. But are you really telling me you don't have 20 minutes? Are there never times you spend scrolling aimlessly on Facebook? (I know I'm guilty.)

Yes, of course. Yoga School is designed for people with no or little prior knowledge of yoga. That means I don't expect you to have equipment. If I ask you to use any props, it will be cushions from your sofa or a belt from your jeans or dressing gown/house coat.

Yes, I'm a Senior III Iyengar yoga teacher, certified by the IY(UK). I have been teaching for 30 years and qualified to train other teachers to teach for 15 years. I'm also a moderator for Iyengar yoga exams. Unlike most other yoga teachers, I'm also a qualified school teacher so I really have been teaching my whole life.

To make sure I keep my teaching sharp, I go to study in India every year at the Iyengar yoga institute. I lost track of my trips after my 40th visit!

Yoga School is 14 lessons, each between 30 and 50 minutes.

No, the lessons are all pre-recorded so the course is self-paced. I will go live in the Facebook group but that is something you can watch again at any time.

I go to India each year to study at the Iyengar yoga institute so I wanted to give back in some way. As a vegetarian and life-long animal lover, I was drawn to the charity Wildlife SOS India. They rescue elephants that have been badly treated and save bears from a life where they're chained up and made to dance.

In 2017 I got to visit the sanctuary near Delhi in the north of India for the first time after years of donating. Seeing the transformation in these beautiful creatures is something I'll never forget. 10% of all profits from Yoga School will go straight to Wildlife SOS India to support their wonderful work and help them save and rescue even more bears and elephants from a life of cruelty.
